Houses of Hogwarts: A Gryffindor inspired look (Avante Garde)

Some backstory if you're interested: I recently saw 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' with a friend and have mentally been enjoying it more and more since.  As a result I have become mildly obsessed with the 'Wizarding World' that has been famous for about two decades.  Full disclosure, I haven't finished Harry Potter yet, but I plan on it.

Anyway today I start my series of makeup looks inspired by the houses of Hogwarts.  I have two options for my Gryffindor look, either the vibrant red you see below or a slightly deeper, more sultry look at the end.

Getting into it I start as usual, with a primer and base shadow all over my lid.

Then I follow with a fairly liberal application of a bright red.  It doesn't look as liberal as it was because it isn't as pigmented as a red ought to be.

Then I blend the harshness out with a clean brush.

Next up is the packing of a lovely gold onto the lid.  I had to search my collection for a yellow enough shade.  I take this right up to the crease, creating almost a cut crease. Due to the poor quality of my shadow I've grabbed a burgundy and lightly taken it through the crease to solidify the shade.

You can see in the below shot how I've drawn a cat eye shape, much like the lion of Gryffindor *wink*.

Of course I've continued with the red onto my lower lashline, deepening there with burgundy too.

A final blend and the application of a slightly lighter gold to the inner corner and inner lower lashes completes the shadow.

Tightlining and mascara finishes the look for me.

I paired it with the obvious choice: a bright red lip.

The cupid's bow is more intense than usual to match this slightly crazy look.

I did want to tone down the red a little and make it more sultry, so here I've added more burgundy and even a hint of black to the cut crease.

Hopefully this was an entertaining post for the Potter fans out there.  I'm looking forward to attempting creativity in the coming weeks to finish up the houses.  Have a fun day,

Cassy
