REVIEW & LOOKS of the Kat von D MetalMatte Palette

Finally time for this review even though this palette was Limited Edition and is sold out almost entirely internationally.  I got mine from Sephora AU in March 2017 for $48 with a 10% limited time discount (so $43.2).

Here I'm going to go over my thoughts for the palette as a whole and review individual shades and show my looks.

OVERALL:

It's a good palette, but not a great one.  I'm floundering between disappointment that not all of the shades are as wonderful as I'd like and acceptance because it's still nice, perfectly usable and a great deal in terms of high end products.  You can see from the swatches that the metals perform really nicely and the mattes quite average (now I do mean average, not good, not bad).  I like to apply the metals with my finger because it gives full opacity instantly and I can just mush it all over my eye.  That said it works fine to use a brush, just go for a dense flat one, nothing too loose.  The mattes are a little more fiddly.  They mostly blend well but they tend to lack immediate pigment and have to be built up.  That isn't a massively bad thing, it's just not impressive.  A slow build is actually easier to create a look from without going totally wild and messy but you lack that lovely shock of "Oh! So pigmented!".  The white and cream are the worst pigmented and need serious building up.  I find they go on best with a round topped concealer brush.

SHADES:

The Metals

Nebula: Rich navy with slightly purple tones

Watt: Rich deep teal

Ignite: Mid-light blue with hint of aqua

Tinsel:  Pure silver (not a white-silver)

Glitz: Very light pink with slight peach tones

Twinkle: Light lavender with slight pink tones

Volt: Warm deep purple with slight brown tones

Synergy: Warm rich bronze

Flash: Mid-deep yellow gold

The Mattes

Linen: Pure white, basic but I don't have any strong comparisons personally.  This is purer than the shade Snow Flake from Saucebox Etude

Jet: Stark black, basic and just like Toffee from Saucebox Etude.

Velour: Royal blue

Stone: Pure grey (no brown or purple tones), much lighter than black but still a deep shade.

Moss: Deep, smokey green.

Ribbon: Mid purple

Silk: Pink meets purple

Fringe: Bright pastel peach

Feather: Pastel yellow

Oak: Warm caramel brown

Suede: Light neutral tan/beige

Bone: cream

Velvet: Rich purple burgundy
