PICTORIAL: All Matte Burgundy with Black Undersmoke using Saucebox Etude Palette
My first tutorial!
On Friday I created this smokey brick red/burgundy look using all shadows from the Saucebox Etude Palette, a staple in my collection.
Now I'll talk through the steps it takes to create the look.
First up prime your eyes (as usual I used elf's Eyelid Primer), and then pack Beaming (cream) onto the lid as a base.
I hope you enjoyed my first pictorial for the blog. For any tips or questions feel free to comment.
Enjoy your weekend (if it's not already over),

On Friday I created this smokey brick red/burgundy look using all shadows from the Saucebox Etude Palette, a staple in my collection.
Now I'll talk through the steps it takes to create the look.
First up prime your eyes (as usual I used elf's Eyelid Primer), and then pack Beaming (cream) onto the lid as a base.
Next up on a loose crease brush take Cream Dream (neutral beige) into and above the crease to form a kind of guide for the deeper shade/s and to ease blending into the skin tone.
Onto Biscotti (muted brick/brownish burgundy), take this on a pinched crease brush first along the lashes, winging up and out.
Then using the same colour and brush create a defined crease, making sure to join the two lines at the outermost point.
At this point the upper lid is almost complete and it's time to make sure it is as blended as you would like and visible in the right position. You might just be able to tell the discrepancy between the above and below images where I took more of Cream Dream on my loose brush and blended over any stark or patchy areas.
As a final step open up your eye (particularly relevant for those with monolids or hooded eyes) and check that this is how you want it to look. I added a touch more colour higher above my crease so that it was visible. I also touched up the outer corner slightly.
Up until now you can likely tell I didn't have any foundation or brows on. At this point I applied them in preparation for my lower lashline. This order is personal preference and just a failsafe for me if I get fallout or a little crazy with overblending.
First take Cream Dream again and blend loosely onto the lashline. I'm using the same two blending brushes from the upper lid but if you prefer a more precise look feel free to use smaller brushes.
You guessed it, now take Biscotti and place it slightly more constrained to the lashes.
Last step for the shadow now: take Toffee (black) on a smudger brush and concentrate the pigment to the outer portion, close to the lash roots.
Take the time now to sit back and assess the overall appearance of the shadow and add colour or blend where you can see gaps or patchiness. Be sure to match both eyes as best you can.
This is where I personally added Stila's eyeliner in Damsel (deep brown) to my tightline and Essence's Maximum Definition mascara to top and bottom lashes.
If you want to amp up the smokiness use a deep brown or black in the tightline and waterline (I can't as it irritates my eyes) or even add eyeliner to the upper lashes of this look.
Here once again we've got the finished look. I feel this is appropriate for daytime wear but it would also serve for a moderately smokey look for all of your nighttime activities.
I hope you enjoyed my first pictorial for the blog. For any tips or questions feel free to comment.
Enjoy your weekend (if it's not already over),
